Dr Alain E. Mottaz earned a MD degree (1985) and a Doctorate (1989) from the University of Lausanne School of Medicine, Switzerland. He is an urologist surgeon mainly trained at the University of Berne, Switzerland.

In 1996 Dr Mottaz received the European Certification in Andrology and since 1998 is a Fellow of the European Board of Urology. He is also a current Member of the American Urological Association.

Dr Mottaz has always been involved in clinical and fundamental research, being part with his work in the S.P.O.R.E. grant on prostate cancer during his stay at Baylor College of Medicine (Houston-TX-USA).

When he returned to Switzerland, he was heading a research unit at the Institute for Clinical and Experimental Research, University of Berne. While practicing urologic surgery, he is still involved in clinical research with emphasis on pharmacogenetics and biomarkers. He is the author of more than 35 publications.

In 2005, Dr Mottaz co-founded Gene Predictis. Since then, he has promoted the development of genetically based predictive and preventive medicine in the human. He is a member of the board of Gene Predictis.
